WEST PARIS – Mary E. Aldrich, 99, of West Paris, died Sunday, Sept. 25, at Ledgeview Living Center.
She was born in Locke Mills on Oct. 21, 1905, the daughter of Wilbur and Lucretia Cole Swan. She attended schools in Locke Mills and Norway; she also attended Gray’s Business College in Portland.
She was employed by Stuart Goodwin’s Insurance Co., until her marriage to Rupert F. Aldrich on Sept. 13, 1928.
She became a member of the Norway Baptist Church in 1924. In later years, she taught Sunday school there. She was active in the Mother’s League, the Grange, Women’s Club and Oxford County Extension. She was also a member of the South Paris Alumni Association and a lifetime member of the Paris Cape Historical Society.
She was an associated member of South Paris High School. She also took Red Cross training courses in South Paris.
Throughout her life, she remained a devoted and devout Christian woman, and up to the moment of her passing she was still mesmerizing her loved ones with her beautiful genuine smile.
She is survived by two daughters, Charlotte Young and her husband, Herbert, of Sanford, and Ann Aldrich of Wilmington, N.C.; a daughter-in-law, Viola Aldrich of Norway; a sister-in-law, Ismay Lister of Springvale; grandchildren, Susan Mitchell and her husband, James, of Sanford, Arthur Young and his wife, Denise, of Hooksett, N.H., Thomas Young and his wife, Doris, of Farmington, N.H., Allan Young and his wife, Susan, of Sanford, Dean Aldrich and his wife, Karen, of Jacksonville, Fla., Michael Aldrich and his wife, Paula, of Lewiston, and Anthony Aldrich of Norway; great-grandchildren, Christopher Young and his wife, Missy, of High Point, N.C., Gregory Bourque of Sanford, Jeffery Mitchell of Sanford, Adam and Michael Young, both of Hooksett, N.H., Justin and Joshua Young, both of Sanford, Derek and Kendall Aldrich, both of Jacksonville, Fla., and James and Courtney Aldrich, both of Lewiston; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband on Aug. 2, 1987; a sister, Flora Swan; a brother, Pearl Swan; two granddaughters, Deborah Ann in 1964, and Laura Ann in 1970; a son, David F. Aldrich in 1995; and a great-grandson, Andrew Herbert Young in 2003.
