County meeting

TEMPLE – Franklin County Firefighters will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, at the Temple Town Hall, Route 43. Chief Andrews said the Maine Fire Commission will provide the program.

Scout registration

FARMINGTON – Girl Scout registration nights, including parent information and sign-ups, will be held at the following locations:

Wilton: Cushing School, Monday, Oct. 3, at 6:30 p.m.

Jay: Jay Middle School, Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 6:30 p.m.

Kingfield: Kingfield Elementary School, Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 6:30 p.m.

Farmington: Mallett School, Thursday, Oct. 6, at 6:30 p.m.

Girl Scouts is for girls in grades kindergarten through grade 12. Troops are run by volunteer leaders and activities are determined by the troop leaders and girls themselves. Volunteer leaders are needed and training is provided.

Open house

WILTON – An open house will be sponsored by the Volunteer Department of Western Maine Community Action from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the Service Center Conference Room, 859 Route 2E.

The public is welcome to learn what is new about volunteer opportunities. Community projects, including Operation Santa Claus, will be featured.

Forum speaker

WILTON – The subject, “Starting a Small Business in Wilton,” will be addressed at the Wilton Community Forum Breakfast from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, 386 Main St.

The speaker will be Sarah Tanguay, proprietor of the Waterfront Bakery and Cafe in Wilton, which opened earlier this year. She will discuss what is required for operation of a successful new small business enterprise in the current economic climate.

A buffet breakfast of hot and cold items will be provided. Admission is free. Donations will be accepted. The breakfasts will be held on the first Wednesday of the month, October to May. The public is invited. For more information, call 645-2535.

Free luncheon

FARMINGTON – Old South First Congregational Church will serve its monthly free community luncheon from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8. Menu: meat loaf, mashed potatoes, veggies and pie.

Call the church office at 778-0424 during the week or the church kitchen at 778-4438 on the morning of the luncheon for meal delivery.
