AUBURN – Volunteers are needed to work on hiking trails at the Harkins Preserve Property, which abuts Sherwood Heights School, from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 1.

The work, organized by L/A Trails and Androscoggin Land Trust, will involve distributing wood chips, pruning and marking the trails, among other things.

Free water and refreshments will be provided. Volunteers should bring gloves, wheelbarrows, rakes, pruners and weeders to help improve trails in New Auburn. The group will meet at 8 a.m. at the end of 19th Street. For more information, people may call Mike Lecompte at 777-3724.
