Most of us have been mourning for four years the loss of 3,000 citizens from the U.S. and many other countries during the Sept. 11 attacks on New York City, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania.

We are presently mourning the loss of over 1,900 of our finest soldiers, who were killed fighting in the war on terror in the Middle East.

It is incredibly sad that beyond all of this loss, we also should become more aware of the fact that thousands of pre-born babies have been lost every single day of the year for the past 30 years. Playmates for my grandchildren are not here. New young voters are not here. Two generations of workers to help bolster the Social Security system are not here.

This Sunday we may participate in the Life Chain on the bridge between Lewiston-Auburn and a number of other Maine cities. Many others of us will join in the Pro-Life Memorial Day on Oct. 3 – helping us remember the millions who disappear from our citizenry at the alarming rate of 4,000 a day, 365 days a year.
