LISBON – By the time Traip Academy managed to get any positive yards Saturday afternoon, it was already behind 14-0.

That deficit only grew more substantial as the Lisbon Greyhounds rolled over the Rangers 49-0.

The Greyhounds built a 21-0 lead on their first three possessions.

Lisbon’s ground game pounded out 289 yards. Levi Ervin led the attack with 113 yards on 16 carries, all in the first half. He also had three touchdowns.

“I think offensively, up front, I kind of saw it this week,” said Lisbon coach Dick Mynahan, whose club also avoided any turnovers. “I thought our line turned the corner. The line is working very hard. They’re getting better and better and better. We noticed last week that there was a real push off the line. That’s what we went after today.”

Quarterback Chris Brunick completed five of six passes for 59 yards.

“Chris just has to be calm and he has to control us and lead us in the right direction,” said Mynahan. “He has to throw his balls when he can. He’s having a year that you wouldn’t expect for a person not having played quarterback before.”

Ervin sparked the offense right from the opening kickoff with a long return, setting the Greyhounds (4-1) up at the Traip 48. Lisbon used seven plays before Ervin burst up the middle for a 7-0 lead.

Traip (0-5) fumbled the ball on two straight plays. On the second miscue, Lisbon’s Andrew Dubois recovered the ball on the 16. Dan Willis turned that opportunity into a 14-0 lead, bolting up the middle for 30 yards and the score.

Traip totalled just 11 yards in the entire first half.
