Every time someone writes a letter to the editor about how bad our state Democratic leaders are, the blame seems to always shift to our president and the Republicans in federal government.
The problem with our state’s high taxes is our state government.
Gov. King passed into law the Office of Program Evaluation and Government Accountability. Because the program was proposed and supported mainly by the Republican Party in our state, Beverly Daggett, our previous state Democratic Senate majority leader, refused to allow funding for the vital program. She said it was too powerful.
Currently there is no place to file a complaint against state government; no place to report incidents of fraud, waste and abuse against our state government. All the while, our Department of Health and Human Services has wasted $81 million of our taxes. Who is being held accountable for that? Where are our state senators, who supposedly oversee these programs? Why aren’t they being held accountable?
Why are we paying outside agencies to investigate what our state government should be investigating when those recommendations are ignored. Why isn’t our state government providing “the right to petition the government for a redress of grievances,” as required by the First Amendment of our U.S. Constitution?
It’s time to get rid of the governor and representatives who are out of touch on fixing our tax problems, and who will not hold themselves or our state government accountable.
