Grange elects

LIVERMORE – New Norland Grange held an election of officers Sept. 24 at the grange hall.

Officers elected include master, Robert Jones; overseer, Celeste Flagg; lecturer, Emily Pike; steward, Joan Hawksworth; assistant steward, Arlene Jones; lady assistant steward, Ceneretta Ward; chaplain, Melvina Souther; secretary/treasurer, Frances Berry; gate keeper, Leroy Souther; Ceres, Emily Pike; Pomona, Hilda Corkum; Flora, Esther Watson; Executive Committee, Ronald Jones.

Following the election, the grange planned meetings for the coming year and refreshments were served.

Snowmobilers

NEW VINEYARD – New Vineyard North Snowmobile Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, at Smith Memorial Building and will hold a potluck supper.

Auditions set

LIVERMORE FALLS – The Livermore Falls Community and High School Theatre will hold auditions for the production of “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, at the high school cafeteria on Cedar Street.

If the time is a conflict for anyone who wants to audition, call theater director Anne Weatherbee at 897-3428, ext. 112, to make other arrangements. The play is scheduled to be performed on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 2 and 3.

Fall fair

LIVERMORE FALLS – A fall fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Eaton Memorial United Methodist Church, corner of Church and Knapp streets. Food, crafts, a cookie walk and white elephant items will be featured.

Flag ceremony

LIVERMORE FALLS – A flag disposal ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at the George Bunten Post 10 American Legion, Reynolds Avenue. The public is invited.

Legion barbecue

LIVERMORE FALLS – George Bunten Post 10, American Legion, will sponsor a chicken barbecue from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at the post. A half chicken and side dishes will be available for $6. Diners may eat in or take out. For tickets, call Don Simoneau at 897-4013 or Normand Chabot at 897-5003.

Heath to speak

NEW VINEYARD – Michael Heath, leader of Maine’s evangelical ministry, the Christian Civic League of Maine, will speak at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, at Mountain View Bible Church.

The Christian Civic League of Maine is associated with Focus on the Family, a national pro-family organization founded by Dr. James Dobson, psychologist, author and radio personality.

Church pastor Rick Dubuc and the congregation invite all to the event. The church is located on Church Street off Route 27.

Harvest dinner

RANGELEY – The Church of the Good Shepherd on Main Street will host a Harvest Dinner and Silent Auction at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8. The auction will include a variety of merchandise, some antiques, services and assorted certificates. Tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for children under 12.

Haunted house

COPLIN PLANTATION – The Langtown haunted house and barn dance will be held Saturday, Oct. 8, on the Kennebago Road. Tour the house from 6:30 to 9 p.m. then attend a barn dance from 7 to 11 p.m. Admission to the house is $3 but the dance is free. Proceeds benefit the Coplin Plantation Schoolhouse Historical Society. Karaoke and food will be featured.

To reach the haunted house, follow the ghost signs from Stratton toward Rangeley and organizers advise the public to bring a flashlight and to dress warmly. For more information, call Linda at 246-4738.

Society speaker

FARMINGTON – The Farmington Historical Society will meet on Monday, Oct. 10, at Henderson Memorial Baptist Church, Academy Street. There will be a potluck supper at 6 p.m. followed by a business meeting and program at 7 p.m.

The speaker will be Melanie Farmer, who will speak on “Ned Hall’s Table,” carved by Mark Fendersen of Temple. Guests and new members are welcome.

After school

FARMINGTON – The Child Evangelism Fellowship will sponsor after-school programs in the Mallett School in Farmington and Cushing School in Wilton. Good News Clubs will meet from 3 to 4:30 p.m. every Thursday after school starting Oct. 13 and are packed with singing, games, stories and lessons from the Bible.

There is no charge. Clubs are sponsored by the fellowship, not SAD 9. To register a child, parents need to fill out the form the child will bring home from school. For more information, contact Bernadette Harvell at 778-2981 for Farmington or Virginia Mathieu at 645-2366 for Wilton.

Chicken supper

PHILLIPS – The Phillips Shared Ministry Women will continue an autumn tradition of more than 100 years when they sponsor the annual chicken supper from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at the Phillips Middle School. The supper reflects the farming and dairy activity of years past, with an added twist this year.

The menu includes the traditional meal of chicken, gravy, dressing, mashed potatoes, squash, coleslaw, cranberry sauce, rolls and beverage. The “twist” is that diners will have a choice of assorted pies or whipped cream cake, an expansion of last year’s dessert menu. The supper costs $6.50 for adults and $4 for children under 12, and the school is fully accessible.
