Darren LaPointe of Houlton has completed basic training in the National Guard. He recently returned to his hometown after spending 16 weeks at Fort Sill, Okla.

LaPointe is working under a regional recruitment officer and sharing his Guard experience with other interested young men in the area.

LaPointe is still considering the active Army and is considering ranger school. He is the son of former Jay residents, Paul Lapointe and Penni Jewett Lapointe.
