LISBON – Philip W. Sugg Middle School, Union 30, has been awarded a $4,052 Partners in Arts and Learning grant from the Maine Arts Commission. The grants are awarded to school systems in different areas of the state on a rotating basis.

Principal Rick Green said, “The money is divided among four schools based on a per-student ration. The grant money will be used to support the fine arts and provide opportunities for our students to have a balanced art education.”

Superintendent Shannon Welsh said, “Our visual arts program strives to meet the educational needs of all learners by providing developmentally appropriate experiences in the arts.”

She added, “The support provided by the Maine Arts Commission through this grant enables students to interact with professional artists, consider cultural contributions of the arts and experience the impact of various art works and performances. Our students benefit from the additional cultural experiences provided by this grand and we are deeply appreciative of this resource.”
