LISBON – Certified nurse-midwife Barbara Smith-Foy will begin seeing patients one day a week at the Lisbon Falls Family Health Center.

She is now working out of the Women’s Health Pavilion at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston.

She received a bachelor’s degree from Purchase College in New York; an associate’s degree in nursing from Vermont College in Montpelier, Vt.; and her nurse-midwifery certification from the Institute of Midwifery, Women and Health at Philadelphia University in Pennsylvania.

During her 17-year career, Smith-Foy has served as a nurse, women’s advocate and midwife. She is certified in childbirth education and shiatsu massage.

Midwives work under the guidance of an obstetrician/gynecologist.
