To the “former parishioner” of St. Mary’s Church in Lewiston who guessed (Sept. 26) that the lovely blue color that graced the original building “was a donation – it was a good color for an egg, not for walls,” I’d like to say the following.

This color was deliberately chosen by a pastor and parish council who wished to further honor the one (Mary) under whose name the church had been dedicated. Blue has traditionally been a Marian color. Furthermore, the “egg shade” would seem quite appropriate. After all, it is through Mary that the life of Jesus was born into our world.

I would expect anyone associated with a cultural center would refer to a former beloved Catholic Church, the memories of which many of us treasure, with greater class and sensitivity.
