This is in reference to the column in the Sept. 27 Sun Journal by Reps. Roy Blunt and Steny Hoyer. They traveled to Israel 10 months ago and are now telling us how rosy things are, or should be, in the Middle East.

To start with, that story should have been told 10 months ago. Since then, Israel gave the Palestinians $14 million or so to rebuild the Gaza community, but, instead, they bought truckloads of automatic weapons from Egypt with the money. They destroyed the greenhouses the Israelis had left behind, which was one of the major industries. Instead of rebuilding, Palestinians are parading in the streets of Gaza yelling and chanting “Gaza today, Israel tomorrow. Kill all the Jews.”

The population of Gaza is most likely already starving and out of work, and they will turn to the United Nations for help.

Who will be blamed for leaving the Palestinians in such a mess? The Israelis, of course. And why not? They have been blamed and hated for every country’s dilemma for the past 2,530 years, so why stop now?

The Palestinian president is not about to dismantle the terrorist infrastructure. It is his only weapon.

President Bush and the U.S. State Department want Israel’s prime minister to follow the 1949 accord, and that is giving Israel to the Palestinians on a silver platter.

Bush wants to play the role of peacemaker, but he has enough to handle with the aftermath of hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
