STANDISH – Kayla Vaughn punched in her team-leading eighth goal of the season to lead the University of Southern Maine to a 2-1 victory over St. Joseph’s College in field hockey action on Thursday.

Vaughn tallied her second game-winning goal of the season just over a minute into the first overtime period to give the Huskies (5-6) the win. Sadie Garnache-Poirier recorded no saves while earning the win.

Former St. Dom’s standout Sarah Kay tallied for the Monks (0-9) at the 63:01 mark with an assist from Michelle Cusack. Mandy Gosselin turned away eight shots in net for St. Joe’s.

Women’s soccer

Maine 6, Stonybrook 0

ORONO – Marie-Andree Canuel tallied a hat trick for the University of Maine as the Black Bears smoked Stonybrook 6-0 in women’s soccer action Thursday afternoon.

Canuel netted the first, third, and fifth goals throughout the contest. Erin Corey added two goals and an assist, while Laura Harper picked up a deflected ball off Stonybrook and popped it in the net to round out the Black Bears’ (7-4-1, 2-0-1) scoring.

Jasmine Phillips stopped two shots for the shutout, while Stonybrooks’ (3-10-1, 0-4-0) Cindy Bennett made six saves.
