AUGUSTA – Charlene B. Gould, 72, a resident of Gould Road in Leeds, died Friday, Oct. 7, at Maine General Hospital in Augusta, surrounded by her family following a short illness.

She was born in Biddeford on Sept. 18, 1933, the daughter of Ervin and Flossie (Reed) Burleigh. She was educated in the Winthrop schools, getting her G.E.D. from Lewiston High School.

On Nov. 27, 1949, she married Paul F. Gould Jr., of Wayne; he died Dec. 20, 2000.

She worked at the Livermore shoe shop for several years. She was a devoted housewife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, driving her motorcycle, camping and snowmobiling.

She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Gould and his wife, Brenda, of Wayne, and John Gould of Livermore Falls; two daughters, Kathleen Dixon and her husband, Stephen, of Warren, and Jane Hayes and her husband, Nelson, of Washington; one brother, Daniel Burleigh of Chichester, N.H.; nine grandchildren, Julie and Melissa Smith, Stephen Jr. and Matthew Dixon, Paul, June and Sharon Gould, and Jennifer and Douglas Cronkhite; two stepgrandchildren, Nickki and Brendan Hayes; a great-granddaughter, Sarojia Merchant; and an on-the-way great-grandson, Nathaniel Cronkhite.

She was predeceased by her husband; and a daughter, Mary Lynn Smith.
