Our politicians are at it again, taking away more rights of American citizens, imposing laws that claim to enhance our way of life.

The new smoking law should not affect private organizations, such as veterans’ groups that are not open to the public and whose members have fought and died to protect everyone’s rights.

The politicians continue to control our lives, claiming what’s “good” for us. Let’s face it, the government has been sticking it to our Native Americans since the Mayflower landed. Our governor has opposed every bill to allow casinos, for “our good.”

If the Legislature is so concerned about our personal lives, it should look into other issues than a veteran coming to his post to reminisce with war buddies and have a cigarette.

Now they’re on the obesity kick. They should enact a law requiring bathroom scales to be placed in front of every restaurant in Maine. People who are overweight would not be allowed to enter and eat. As ridiculous as this sounds, our legislators are capable of anything.

Why not close down all automobile racetracks where nonsmokers sit and inhale more fumes than a lousy cigarette would generate.
