I read an article in the Health section of Sept. 10 Sun Journal. The article talks about how 9 out of 10 schools deal with having meals that aren’t nutritious. Most schools sell junk food like pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers and other unhealthy foods. It also states that many middle schools and high schools have snack machines and soda machines where students can buy food. There are worries for obese children having chronic health problems when they reach adulthood.
I agree with this article because our school is the same way. I attend Carrie Ricker Middle School in Litchfield, and it serves unhealthy food all the time! We get pizza every Monday, and we also get other unhealthy food during the week. Although we don’t have a soda or snack machine in our school, our high school has them. It also has a la carte with junk foods like cookies, chips and cake. I observed that a lot of kids eat the meal that is served to them. Sometimes I do eat school lunch, but sometimes I don’t. Another thing I observed at our school is that the same kids go up for seconds.
I think that schools should concentrate a little harder on what they are feeding us instead of throwing food in the fryer and calling it good. If kids continue to eat this junk, everyone will be obese and die at a young age because they have clogged arteries or heart failure.
