I just read an article in the Sept. 11 Sun Journal about how we had failed to capture Osama bin Laden because we were too busy pouring our military into Iraq, when Saddam didn’t even pose a threat to the United States. It also stated that the lessons of Sept. 11 had been forgotten, how the local, federal and state government didn’t coordinate, and how people in New Orleans that could have been saved, died.

I agree. The United States is one of the most powerful countries in the world. We should have captured bin Laden when we had the chance. We should have saved those people in New Orleans. I am ashamed of the government for not helping more than it did. Did they send buses into New Orleans to evacuate people who didn’t have cars? No. They could have decreased the number of dead and trapped. They should have had food, supplies and people to help them in a snap. And yet they were so unorganized. Sept. 11’s lesson has been forgotten.

This should not be happening. We need to work together and help those in need. Right now, to other countries around the globe, we look like people who only care about themselves, racist and poorly organized and uncommunicative. We need to break free of our “problems” and see what truly matters. We need to fit the title of a country that is powerful and a good place to live. We need to start helping each other!
