I am a smoker in favor of higher taxes on cigarettes.

Smoking-related illnesses and deaths do not seem enough to get us to quit. Maybe hitting us in the pocketbook will do it.

With higher gas and oil prices, along with increased spending for food, clothing, electricity, car repair and every other aspect of daily living, it seems to this writer that buying cigarettes is way down on the list of necessities.
