I was reading the on Sept. 10 Sun Journal when a letter to the editor caught my eye. It was about the effects of rising gas and oil costs, and it is outrageous.
The elderly will not be able to afford the oil they will need in order to stay warm this winter because they are no longer working, but they still to have to pay huge bills. Great amounts of low-income, working families will have to go without warmth. Even driving your care for just a few miles has become a huge dilemma for many people.
I disagree, however, that the oil companies should donate some of their profits to make gas prices lower. Their job is to charge money for a resource that is limited. Instead, scientists should be finding new ways to fuel cars, like, for instance, corn oil. We would always be able to just make some more by growing it.
In conclusion, this is an enormous problem that should be changed as soon as possible. We cannot blame this all on the oil companies because, in reality, it is not their fault.
