There was a letter to the editor Sept. 11 from Claire Landry about smokers not having “rights” to smoke in bars and restaurants. In the article, it also said cell phones kill more people and that smokers need to keep their rights. What about everybody else’s rights? I mean, the people who don’t smoke and who don’t like the smell of smoke. Some people are allergic to cigarettes. If people smoked in public places, what about the nonsmokers’ rights.

I’m not sure about the idea that cell phones are killing more people. Sure there have been a few accidents, but most of the time, a few people die or get injured. With smoking, it affects the smoker and the people around the smoker. Smoking can kill more people than cell phones.

In conclusion, I would like to say that when I read this letter, it upset me very much that this person didn’t think about why smoking was banned from public places. This person was only thinking about herself and other smokers and no one else. There are other people in this world besides smokers.
