I recently read an article in the newspaper called, “Sumner bicyclist badly hurt in truck collision.” To me, this is upsetting because the man was not hit by accident, but by a truck driver who police say was drinking and doing illegal drugs while behind the wheel. This man’s idea of having a little fun put an innocent person in the hospital. What is happening to our country? I don’t get how someone can drive impaired and not give a thought to whom they’re putting in danger. Our fellow Americans are starting to become more and more irresponsible.

I’m not mad because of this one accident, but I am upset that this happens over and over again. If a drunk driver gets arrested, he doesn’t care; he’ll just get drunk and drive some more. Also, when you drive impaired, you are putting yourself in danger, which might affect that person’s family. I know there is not much the police can do to stop a person from having drinks, but that person needs to tell him or herself when enough is enough before they get someone killed. If we could do this, our country would already start to be a better place and safer at that.

The people of this country who don’t drink in a safe way need to learn how to be a little more responsible. I’m not saying that it is never OK to drink, but there is a time and a place for it!
