BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) – A woman landed in hot water after rushing to the hospital seeking treatment for her nephew who was scalded by soup.
Freida Maldonado, 30, of Bridgeport, told police she drove her 20-month-old nephew, Yovan Maldonado, to the emergency room of St. Vincent’s Medical Center Sunday because a bowl of hot soup spilled on him after he pulled it from a counter in her apartment.
Police charged Freida Maldonado with failing to obey several traffic lights and stop signs, engaging police in pursuit, transporting a child younger than 4 without using a restraint system and two counts of risk of injury to a minor.
Several accidents nearly occurred while she was transporting the child, police said.
The child was admitted for observation and was in stable condition at the hospital. Police said the boy suffered burns on his neck and chest from the soup.
Authorities contacted the state Department of Children and Families to investigate.
Maldonado was released on a $5,000 bond pending an appearance in Bridgeport Superior Court.
