RUMFORD – Lloyd G. Sassi, 87, of Franklin Street, died Monday, Oct. 10, at his home with his loving family at his side, following a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.

He was born in Frankfort on April 25, 1918, a son of Gaitano “Red” and Margaret (Curtis) Sassi. He was educated in Rumford schools and was a graduate of Stephens High School Class of 1937.

He married Antonine “Toni” (Chiasson) on Nov. 30, 1940.

He was employed for 42 years with the Oxford Paper Co., and was a communicant of St. Athanasius and St. John Catholic Church. He was a member of the Boise 25 & 40 year club.

In his younger years, he enjoyed skiing, skating and hunting. He loved spending summer with his family at Roxbury Pond and playing cribbage each day with his wife, Toni.

Surviving is his wife of 64 years, Antonine “Toni” (Chiasson) Sassi; two sons, Kenneth L. Sassi and wife, Charlene, of Damariscotta, and Keith V. Sassi and wife, Christine, of Land O’ Lakes, Fla.; a daughter, Susan A. Byard of Rumford; a sister, Geraldine Rowe and husband, John, of Rouses Point, N.Y.; a brother, Sidney Sassi of West Paris; five grandchildren, Jessica Paugh and husband, Tim, Mark Sassi and wife, Jennifer, Nicholas Sassi, and Brenna and Alyson Byard; and four great-grandchildren, Madeleine Paugh, Audrey Paugh, Kate Paugh and Fischer Sassi.

He was predeceased by a sister, Vivian Bulger; a son-in-law, James E. Byard Jr.; and a brother-in-law, Chris Chiasson.
