FARMINGTON – Police are continuing to investigate two burglaries in Franklin and Somerset counties in which five teens have been charged, Lt. Dale Lancaster of the Maine State Police said Tuesday.
Four 17-year-olds – two are from Skowhegan, one from Norridgewock and one from New Sharon – and an 18-year-old from Norridgewock have each been charged with one count of burglary in Somerset County and one in Franklin County.
The youths are accused of kicking in the back door at Sandy River Farm Supply in New Sharon on Sept. 11 and stealing alcohol and chocolate milk, Lancaster said.
They also tried to break into Jim’s Market on Route 150 in Athens by pushing an air conditioning unit into the building, he said.
They were foiled in this attempt by an alarm, and fled, he said.
The Athens break-in attempt led to the Somerset County burglary charge.
Trooper Derrick Record investigated the incidents, Lancaster said.
Brian Franke, 18, of Norridgewock was issued a summons to appear in court Dec. 28, according to Lancaster.
One of the 17-year-olds was taken to a youth detention center in Charleston; the others were released to their guardians. All will be arraigned in juvenile court Dec. 14.
