I feel we are fortunate to have a priest such as the Rev. Michael Seavey at St. Joseph’s Church in Lewiston. He had the courage to speak his mind on discrimination during a speech at the Maine Won’t Discriminate forum held on Sept. 22 in Lewiston. The three people who spoke said they were speaking for themselves and did not represent their organizations. It did not take long for the Maine Grassroots Coalition to protest Seavey’s participation at the forum because he wore his collar.

The election on Nov. 8 has a Question 1 to vote on discrimination against gays. When Mainers vote, they should use their conscience as their guide. Remember, it is wrong to discriminate against anyone regardless of his or her race, religion or sexual orientation. This question has nothing to do about gay marriages; it is simply about equal rights.
