AUBURN – The one thing weather and emergency management officials agree on is this: It will rain steadily for the next couple days and it will likely be unpleasant.

Weather forecasters say most of the state will see 3 inches of rain today and Friday. With the ground already wet from the earlier deluge, meteorologists are keeping their eyes on the rivers and streams for signs of flooding.

Emergency planners are optimistic. Joanne Potvin, director of the Androscoggin County Emergency Management Agency, was working during her vacation to assess the threat of flooding.

“I don’t think we have much to worry about,” Potvin said. “We canvassed the entire county. There were really no problems at all.”

During the worst of the downpours over the weekend and into the early part of the week, the Androscoggin River did not rise above 10 feet, Potvin said.

“It was more of an inconvenience than anything else,” she said. “We stayed pretty much high and dry.”
