AUGUSTA (AP) – Penn National Gaming plans to open its Bangor slot machine facility to the public on Nov. 4 a company official said Tuesday.

Hollywood Slots, which will house up to 475 slot machines, will open two years to the day after voters approved a statewide referendum that legalized slot machines at Maine’s commercial harness racing tracks.

Jon Johnson, general manager of Penn National’s Maine operations, told the Maine Gambling Control Board that the opening date is tentative.

For now, the company has scheduled a VIP party on Nov. 2 with after-tax proceeds being donated to the United Way of Eastern Maine. The facility will be closed on Nov. 3 to get ready for the public opening.

Hollywood Slots, located in the former Miller’s Restaurant on Main Street, is the only slots facility in Maine. By law, it has to be within 2,000 feet of the Bangor Raceway horse track.

Penn National, a publicly traded company with headquarters in Pennsylvania, plans to eventually replace the Miller’s facility with a permanent facility with up to 1,500 slot machines.
