PARIS – Howard “Jack” Frost will speak on his hobby of woodcarving at the Thursday, Oct. 20, meeting of the Paris Cape Historical Society at 7 p.m. at the 77 High St. museum and meeting room.

Frost is a member of the Maine State Woodcarvers Association and the Streaked Mountain Woodcarvers. He will speak on modern woodcarving and show some of his handiwork: birds, chipmunk and a miniature violin. Frost won a blue ribbon for his carving of a violin at the recent Portland Woodcarvers Show.

The society announces that it has a handicapped ramp. The public is invited to see recent acquisitions, including an 1843 mantle clock with wooden works, which was originally in the shop of Elmer Brigs, donated by Michael Lovejoy; cast iron toys originally belonging to Charlie Hammond, donated by Louise Bailey, his daughter; children’s furniture, including a Bathinette, rocking chair, doll carriage, handmade wood scooter and chamber pot, all previously owned by Barbara Swan Frost and donated by her; and two bureaus formerly owned by Guy Rowe of South Paris and given by Russell Rowe.

The society will be present at the Business Showcase at the end of October, offering for sale several books, pictures and other items.
