BALDWIN – The body of a Fryeburg teen was found in a wrecked car off Route 113 early Thursday morning, police said, and the Baldwin woman who was driving the vehicle was badly injured.

Bradley Joy, 17, died of multiple trauma, Sgt. David Hall of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department said.

Joy was riding with Kelli Boutot, 21, of Baldwin, who was listed in critical condition at Maine Medical Center in Portland, the sergeant said.

A school employee at Baldwin Consolidated School noticed a damaged utility pole across the street from the school, and looked beyond it to see the wrecked 1994 Buick Century in the woods, Hall said.

Deputies arrived shortly after 7 a.m.

“The car took a section right out of the middle of the pole,” Hall said. “But the power did not go out.”

Hall said the crash occurred sometime before 5:30 a.m. A fire official in the Baldwin Fire Department reported later in the day that he drove by the broken pole at that time, according to Hall.

The car crashed into the pole, went 18 feet down an embankment and stopped in the woods, where it sat undetected for an unknown period of time.

“The investigating deputy has to work backwards, to find out when they were last seen and create a time sequence,” Hall said.

Hall said it was not raining Wednesday night, and the road is fairly straight where the accident occurred. He is investigating to determine the speed of the car and the cause of the accident.
