LEWISTON – An informational session will be held at USM’s Lewiston-Auburn College at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, on its Extended Teacher Education Program.

The graduate-level teacher education program consists of two phases: the internship and the master’s degree. The internship phase provides all of the coursework and experience required for Maine certification in either a compact, full-time format or a part-time two-year format.

Once students complete the internship, they have the option of completing additional credits of advanced professional study to earn an M.S. Ed. with a concentration in teaching and learning or an M.S. in special education, depending upon the certification and option.

There are several options available that include grades kindergarten through eight or secondary certification in a full-time nine-month format, a unified elementary and special education or secondary and special education two-year format, or a secondary two-year part-time format. All options will be discussed at the information session.

The session, free and open to the public, will be held in Room 170 at USM/Lewiston-Auburn, 51 Westminster St. Light refreshments will be served. Those who wish to attend are asked to call 753-6552 to register or to get more information.

Space is limited, so advance registration is encouraged.

A similar event focused on USM/Lewiston-Auburn’s undergraduate teacher education program known as CLASS will be held Tuesday, Oct. 25. More information is available on the Web site at http://www.usm.maine.edu/lac/class.
