ALBANY, N.Y. – Marie-Andree Canuel netted a hat trick and added an assist as the University of Maine women’s soccer team pounded host Albany, 6-1, on Friday.
Canuel got the Black Bears on the board first from 20 yards out and sandwiched a Heather Hathorn score with another on long goal to make it 3-0. Erin Corey added a goal and an assist for Maine (9-4-1), and Elise Tebbetts scored the Bears’ final point.
Nicole Hercules punched in the lone goal for Albany (1-15). Tanya Adorno had two saves for Maine. Andrea Dunn and Liz Hanley split the goaltending duties for Albany.

DURHAM, N.H. – Kim MacDonald scored the game-winner at 4:52 of overtime to lift the University of Maine to a 3-2 victory over New Hampshire in field hockey action on Friday.
With the Wildcats (5-10) trailing 2-0 in the second half, Katie White scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season at 48:52 when she redirected Emily Colton’s shot from 10 yards outside the right post to cut the lead in half.
Thirteen minutes later and from the top of the circle, MacKenzie Stuart fired a low shot to Shauna Sellenger, who tipped the ball inside the right post to send the game into overtime.
Maine controlled the extra session.
The Black Bears (9-5) immediately generated two corners, and UNH goalie Margaux Shute denied Gina Legge from the top-left of the circle.
However, MacDonald was able to score the game-winning goal at 74:52 when she gathered a loose ball just outside of the offensive-third, and booted the ball through the charging Shute at the top of the circle and into an open net.
