KEENE, N.H. (AP) – The annual Pumpkin Festival will go on as planned next week, despite some floods that soaked parts of the city.

The festival is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 22, and usually draws thousands of people – not to mention pumpkins – to Keene.

The sponsor, Center Stage Cheshire County, has been taking lots of calls and e-mails from people who are concerned it might be canceled because of the flooding that hit parts of the city. Some people have canceled hotel reservations, but chamber of commerce workers are telling callers that the festival is still happening.

Coordinator Suzanne Woodward said there couldn’t be a better time to have the festival. She said it will be a chance for the community to get together and get out of the doldrums.

Center Stage is trying to attract 30,000 lit jack-o-lanterns to break the record of just less than 29,000, set two years ago.

“The Pumpkin Festival has taken a back seat (to the flooding),” City Councilor Frederick Parsells said. “It’s like a secondary thought right now.”
