All those who have experienced heavy traffic at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles have my heartfelt sympathy.

On Oct. 4, I allowed myself two-and-a-half hours to renew my driver’s license. As a full-time student and working mother of two, my time is extremely valuable to me. I figured this to be a more than enough time to obtain my license. My heart sank when I took my number, No. 111, and looked to the counter to see “now serving No. 76.” I sat down for an apparent long wait, and checked my calendar to see if the next day would allow me a second chance to visit the BMV.

I engaged in idle conversation with other motorists as we noticed only three of six windows were open and that things were moving very slowly. Sitting to my left was No. 102. She had already been waiting over an hour while her ailing husband rested outside in their car. Inevitably, she could no longer wait for her turn.

I would like to personally thank No. 102. Before she called it a day, she changed numbers with me. Within the 15 minutes I had left to spare, my new number was called. At the end of two-and-a-half hours, I left with a temporary renewal – the original to be mailed in a month or so. I want to publicly thank No. 102.

As for the BMV, necessary improvements cannot be made soon enough.
