Garden tour

AUBURN – The Woman’s Literary Union Garden Club will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at the clubhouse at 19 Elm St. Member Jeanne Pacheco will give a tour of the WLU gardens, highlighting the new spring/summer plantings. Future plans for the gardens will also be discussed. Hospitality will be provided by Tonie Ramsey and Clare Haskell. Guests are welcome.

Forum speaker

LEWISTON – There is still time to register for this week’s Great Falls Forum, which will be held on Thursday, Oct. 20, at the Muskie Archives at Bates College. Speaker will be Professor Ijaz Gilani, who will talk on “Pakistan Speaks: Public Opinion and the Question of Democracy in Pakistan.”

To register, call Mari Maxwell at the Sun Journal at 689-2857. Lunch is $7 with preregistration, or $10 at the door. The luncheon program will start at 11:45 a.m.

Craft fair

LEWISTON – The Longley School will hold its annual craft fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, in the Multi-Purpose Center gym.

School visit

LISBON – Lisbon Emergency Inc. will visit grades kindergarten through six on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at the Lisbon Community School, giving a presentation aimed at encouraging students to stay away from drugs and to have a safe and happy Halloween.

Lisbon Emergency EMTs will offer tours of the ambulances to students and teachers and give DARE bags stuffed with goodies and 911 educational materials.

Car checks

LEWISTON – Single women who own cars are invited to a free car winterization Saturday, Oct. 29, offered by the Vineyard Church. Cars will be checked for anti-freeze, oil, wipers, battery, belts and lights. Sign up by calling the Vineyard Church of Lewiston office at 784-9500.

Train show

AUBURN – The Great Falls Model Railroad Club Train Show will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Auburn Middle School, 610 Court St. Tickets are $4 for adults and $2 for under 15 years of age.
