FARMINGTON – The Farmington Head Start Center children visited the Farmington Fair recently. Seventeen children, as well as several staff members and parent volunteers, toured the animal barns, taking time to meet pigs, goats, sheep, horses, cows and many other animals.

Head Start is a preschool program for children ages 3 to 5, focusing on each child’s educational, social, medical and nutritional needs. Early Head Start offers the same components for pregnant women and families with children from birth to age 3. Community Concepts operates Head Start and Early Head Start sites in Franklin and Oxford counties.

“Did you see that?” one little girl exclaimed, pulling her hand away from a particularly friendly miniature horse. “He licked me!”

“The children just love this,” said Brianne, Head Start Family Advocate. “They get to really see a lot of animals up close. We always have a great time on field trips.”

Head Start offers many options, including some full-day or full-year programs and is currently enrolling children in Franklin County. Anyone interested should contact Community Concepts Children’s Services office in Wilton at 645-9512 or visit www.community-concepts.org.
