DERBY, Vt. (AP) – High winds toppled a 120-foot windmill belonging to state Sen. Vincent Illuzzi.

“The pole snapped,” Illuzzi said. “It’s very unusual to have this happen.”

No one was home at the time of the Saturday collapse.

There is little property damage to the family’s home on Shattuck Hill overlooking Lake Memphremagog except to the windmill itself, said Illuzzi’s wife Eileen.

Eileen Illuzzi said the windmill broke a few branches of a nearby tree when it fell, but otherwise she believed there was no other property damage.

High winds rocked the region throughout the weekend, taking down tree limbs and causing a few power failures.

The windmill, installed a few years ago, reduces the Illuzzis’ electricity bill.

Illuzzi said the turbine may have been destroyed when the pole snapped.
