GUILFORD (AP) – The Pride Manufacturing wood turning plant has been sold to couple from New Vineyard that plans to keep the facility open and retain all 60 jobs.

Doug and Jody Fletcher, who own Maine Wood Turning in New Vineyard, agreed to buy the plant for an undisclosed price. Maine Wood Turning has been in business since 1971.

Pride Manufacturing notified employees in June that the plant would close in September if a buyer couldn’t be found. The plant manufactures thousands of different kinds of custom turnings for the piano, furniture, hardware, household, toy, and craft and hobby industries.

Doug Fletcher said with thousands of manufacturing jobs leaving the state in recent years, he couldn’t sit by and watch another wood products company go under.

The sale includes nine buildings, equipment and inventory at the plant as well as 75 acres of land, but does not include Pride’s machine shop in Guilford.

Pride Manufacturing still operates a golf tee manufacturing plant in the town of Burnham.
