WISCASSET – Katelyn Bermudez and Erynne Landry each found the back of the net as St. Dom’s posted a 2-0 victory over No. 8 Wiscasset in a mild upset in a Western Class C prelim girls’ soccer game Tuesday afternoon.
Bermudez scored an unassisted goal in the first half, while Landry tallied the insurance goal in the second half off a pass from Heidi DeHaan. The ninth-ranked Saints (9-5-1) played a solid team game, holding the edge in shots, 11-5, and in corner kicks, 4-0.
Katie Lyon turned away all five shots she faced for the win.
Ox. Hills 1, Waterville 0
WATERVILLE – Whitney Linindoll found the back of the net with 1:52 remaining in the second overtime to lift No. 11 Oxford Hills to a stunning 1-0 victory over Waterville in an Eastern Class A preliminary game.
Sam Rivers made seven saves in net for the Vikings (6-6-3) to record the shutout. Stephanie Whitten played a strong game defensively, effectively shutting down Waterville sniper Lauren Brett, who tallied 25 goals this season.
Taylor Hart handled netkeeping duties for the No. 6 Panthers (10-4-1), turning aside eight shots.
Lincoln 3, Mtn Valley 1
SOUTH CHINA – Jenn Roche netted a pair of goals Tuesday to lead No. 8 Lincoln to a 3-1 victory over No. 9 Mountain Valley in a Western Class B prelim game played at Erskine Academy.
Abby Schling also tallied for the Eagles. Alex Donald made five saves to record the win.
Jessie Sirois scored the Falcons’ lone goal in the first half, while Karri McPhearson turned away six shots in net. The game was tied at 1-1 until Schling broke the deadlock with seven minutes left in the first half.
Hampden 1, Mt. Blue 0
HAMPDEN – Isabell Cravens scored on a throw-in by Courtney Reeves with 25:36 remaining in the game to lift seventh-ranked Hampden to a 1-0 victory over Mt. Blue in a Eastern Class A preliminary round matchup Tuesday.
Michelle Wells needed only two saves to record the shutout.
Caitlin Scott handled netkeeping duties for the 10-ranked Cougars (6-7-2), turning away eight shots. Hampden (12-2-1) outshot Mt. Blue, 31-7, and found just enough accuracy to pull out the win.
