GARDINER – Hannah Strauss tallied the game’s only goal to send No. 7 Oxford Hills to a 1-0 upset victory over No. 2 Gardiner in the Eastern Class A field hockey quarterfinals on Tuesday.

Strauss netted her unassisted goal 18:25 into the second half off a reverse-stick hit on the left side of the net. Keeper Alexsys Pike preserved the shutout and led the defensive effort for the Vikings (9-7) with 15 saves.

Although the Tigers (12-2-1) dominated the game, leading 15-4 in shots and 20-1 in penalty corners, they could not sneak one past Pike.

York 3, Mountain Valley 0

YORK – Micheala Franey netted a goal and recorded an assist as second-seed York defeated Mountain Valley 3-0 in the Western Class quarterfinals Tuesday afternoon.

Karie Rovnak, Lauren Coupal and Franey scored in the first half to put the Wildcats on top. Megan Yorke and Lucy Sargent each posted an assist.

Jenni Hamann, Maddy Aylward, and Kristen Chenard led the defense for No. 7 Mountain Valley (9-7).
