LISBON – Selectmen have agreed to give Reggie Thiboutot until Dec. 30 to make his condemned property on Village Street structurally safe.

The town has been attempting to resolve the dispute over the deteriorated condition of the building since February, and it finally issued a condemnation/demolition order, giving him 30 days to get a building permit to make the necessary repairs, which he failed to do.

The board later agreed to suspend the condemnation order, giving him until Sept. 30 to get the work done, which he failed to do. They later gave him an additional two weeks and voted to have the building inspected by an outside engineer to determine if the necessary work had been done.

They voted 3-2 Tuesday night, with Paul Chizmar and E. Charles Smith opposed, to give him until Dec. 30 after a slide presentation of the progress and a report that some of the work had been done, but more still needed to be done.

It was recommended that some sort of fence be erected around the property. Thiboutot complained that water problems on his property have been caused by the town building up the adjacent parking lot by the fire station and the way the snow is plowed during the winter.

Gunter Adam, a former building contractor, spoke on behalf of Thiboutot, telling selectmen he had known him for a long time, and that he had done lot of work on the structure, which he considered to be a good building.

As part of their agreement to continue the suspension order, selectmen specified that a fence be put around the building.
