RUMFORD – Eight magicians from throughout Maine will perform Sunday, Oct. 23, at a benefit for the Moontide Water Festival fireworks. The show will begin at 6 p.m. in Mountain Valley High School’s Muskie Auditorium. It will open with high-school majorettes performing with illuminated batons.
Participating magicians are Bob Nixon, Karen Seymour, Professor Miller, Jeremie Remian, Dennis Labbe, The Great Stephan, Society of Young Magicians member Kaitlyn Grassette and Scot Grassette as master of ceremonies.
Gov. John Baldacci has proclaimed Magic Week in the state for Oct. 23 to 31. The week, proclaimed in many states, honors Harry Houdini on the anniversary of his death, Oct. 31, 1926. A rendition of Houdini’s sub trunk illusion will be performed at Sunday’s show.
The week will be observed by the Society of American Magicians No. 174 “Leger de Maine” with library displays, hospital visits and several special events, including Sunday’s performance.
