NEW VINEYARD – A 61-year-old Nobleboro man was arrested on a felony charge of unlawful sexual contact Wednesday.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department received a report from a 19-year-old Farmington woman who said she was sexually molested by Linwood Palmer III in a vehicle in New Vineyard, according to Detective David St. Laurent.

The two were acquaintances through his family, and St. Laurent said Palmer had asked his victim to take a ride to discuss family issues when the incident occurred on the afternoon of Oct. 10.

St. Laurent said he and another officer had unsuccessfully attempted to locate Palmer in Nobleboro in Lincoln County on Tuesday and left messages for him to contact them. Palmer called and later met with St. Laurent Wednesday in Franklin County, at which time he was arrested.

Palmer was charged with a Class B felony of unlawful sexual contact and was arraigned in Franklin County on Wednesday. Other charges are pending review by the district attorney’s office. He remains in the Franklin County Jail on $1,000 bail. His case will be heard by a grand jury in mid-November.
