HARTFORD – After a lengthy discussion and comparing other towns’ costs for winter roads, selectmen approved a contract submitted by Hartford Road Commissioner Alan McNeil. The contract for $84,727,50 is 10 percent more than the 2004 budget but still within the 2005 town budget.

The chairman of the Road Committee, Bob Calawa, had contacted several neighboring towns on their costs for winter roads, but only had firm figures from Sumner. The towns have nearly the same number of miles of road to plow. Hartford’s cost per mile, with a 10 percent fuel increase, was about $300 less than Sumner’s. Selectmen voted to make the 10 percent fuel increase for sand as well as winter plowing.

Selectmen also voted to award the design and management of their salt and sand shed to Community Dynamics.

Selectman Lee Holman reported an incident involving two pit bulls who attacked a neighbor’s dogs and no one was able to contact the animal control officer. No action was taken.

Holman also announced that Hartford will be hosting the Oxford County Municipal Officers meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26. Phil Curtis, consultant with the Department of Transportation, will speak on snow and ice removal.

Darryl Boness was appointed to the Ordinance Committee.

Canton Hi Riders were given traditional access to ride over the Hartford ball field with the restriction that no snow be left in the road.

There will be a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 3 for the General Assistance ordinance.

Judy Hamilton from the Comprehensive Committee reminded selectmen of the public hearing at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, in the Town Hall on the Comprehensive Plan. The hearing will be to review the inventory section of the proposed new Comprehensive Plan. The goal for the hearing is preliminary approval of this first section.
