I am responding to the two guest columns in the Perspective section Oct.16 about Question 1. Both articles were very well written and worth reading. I would encourage anyone planning to vote on the anti-discrimination referendum issue to read both articles.

After reading both pieces, only one question arose for me. I would like to ask writer Lew Alessio if the girl he wrote about who was whacked on the left hand five times with that ruler felt driven to create new legislation to put an end to that treatment, or should she?

There is an anti-discrimination law already on the books and that must be enforced in our courts.
