RUMFORD – Alfred Richard, 83, of Mexico, a member of American Legion Post 24 for 36 years, was recently named its commander, replacing Joseph Martineau.
Richard served in many capacities for the Legion, such as chaplain, second vice president and first vice president, over the years. He is a World War II veteran, having served three years in Europe.
Richard worked for 38 years for Oxford Paper Co., then Boise Cascade, including 34 years in roll wrapping and three years as an operator rewinder in the mill.
He was elected to a one-year term as commander.
He said, “I’ll do the best I can as the commanding officer. The American Legion is running good right now, and, I’ve got a good slate of officers.”
