“Do as I say, not as I do!” – that’s President Bush’s advice to the nation concerning the energy crisis.
He told us that we should cut back on our energy use, and not drive around as much. Turn down the thermostat. That’s the “Do as I say” part.
What he does, however, is slurp up gallons of expensive jet fuel commuting in Air Force One back and forth to New Orleans. He wants to be seen in photo ops whacking nails and to improve his sagging image in the polls, to which he says he doesn’t pay attention.
And we can be sure he’s not going to put his gas-guzzling pickup on blocks or turn down the thermostat in the White House. The do-as-I-say, not-as-I-do president.
At least Jimmy Carter was often seen wearing a sweater. And he can really swing a hammer.
