I see the Democratic talking heads working again through the Sun Journal’s Perspective section (Oct. 16). Jim Carignan and Steve Hochstadt are again talking the Democratic line of the week.

First, on the gay-rights vote, Carignan is scratching his head about why people would vote against giving gay people the same rights others have from. Carignan fails to mention that all men and women are treated equal, per the Constitution of this great country, and that is why the equal rights amendment for women never passed.

If the gay rights law, passed by the Maine House and Senate, is not defeated again, it would mean the voice of the people of Maine does not count. The people have already voted down similar legislation. What people do not understand is that this law makes hiring more difficult and opens employers to lawsuits from homosexuals.

Owners of apartment houses would have to be careful about prospective renters’ sexual orientation during the interview process or they might be sued. The legislation is another lawyers’ dream come true.

Yes, someone did make the statement that Maine is the only state in New England not to extend these special rights to gay people. I would say what my mother used to say: “If everyone were jumping off a cliff, would you jump too?”

Most people who were born, raised and live here have Maine values, which we apply to all people, because, as our Constitution says, we are all created equal.
