Let’s say that you are a small business owner and have two people working for you. You have to downsize and lay off one person. One is homosexual, one is not.

If the law that was passed by the state Legislature in Augusta stands, you had better lay off the person who is not a homosexual, even if he is the better worker, because, if you lay off the homosexual worker, he could call it discrimination and the civil rights lawyers could take the matter to court, costing you, the owner of the business, a lot of money.

If voters want to force business owners to choose to lay off a person who is not a homosexual, they should vote no on Question 1. But if they do, that person being let go will be me, because I have no special rights.

That is why I am voting yes on Question 1 on Nov. 8.
