Tasting party
OXFORD – The Oxford Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at the Kay House meeting room on Pleasant Street.
After the business meeting, there will be an old-fashioned tasting party. Members are asked to bring a dessert or snack made from an old-time recipe and bring the recipe to share. Pumpkin doughnuts made from an 1800s recipe and a depression cake will be part of the menu. Beverages will be served by the Refreshment Committee. All are welcome.
Haunted hayride
BUCKFIELD – The Buckfield High School class of 2006 is planning the annual haunted hayride from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 28 and 29. They have brought together some experienced hayride staff as well as added some new characters with new surprises waiting.
The script has been written and the scenes will soon be built.
The class is hoping for fair weather evenings, but is prepared with covered wagons in case of rain.
The hayride will start at Bessey Field on the Paris Hill Road. The cost is $5 a person. There will be hot and cold drinks, hot dogs and sweets for sale.
Society speaker
GREENWOOD – The Greenwood Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, at the Historical Building on Main Street. Following the business meeting, John Davis will present a program, “Pulling the Needle out of the Haystack,” featuring an example of how historians unravel its location from bits of seemingly insignificant notations and often withdraw a wealth of information. Everyone is welcome.
