AUBURN – A bow in a New Auburn sewer line will mean Broad Street will be closed from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. Thursday.

Crews from the Auburn Sewer District will dig a trench for a new sanitary sewer line. They had hoped to insert an smaller plastic pipe into the existing sewer line that runs under Broad Street. The existing line appears to bow downward, according to Norm Lamie, district superintendent.

“They tried and tried Monday, and they could not shove that pipe through,” he said. “We need it to be a straight line, but the pipe has a bit of dip in it, right in the middle.”

The pipe is part of a sewer separation project in New Auburn. Crews are replacing an old sewer line that collapsed in 2004. They’ll move the project to Second Street, between Mill and Dunn streets, later this week.
